Creature, Event & Radio Overhaul
Barotraumatic
Floods Europa with danger: 258+ creatures, monsters inside wrecks and ruins, biome-specific threats, and more frequent missions and events — plus a complete radio overhaul where your headset itself becomes a hazard. The pack's combat backbone.

Safe to add/remove anytime
- What it is
- A creature/spawn/mission and radio overhaul by Draconis & team (the consolidated successor to several legacy monster packs).
- Load position
- Generally safe at the top of the list. Any mod that edits the spawn list, event manager, or vanilla afflictions must load below it.
- Campaign safety
- Safe to add or remove from a campaign at any time (you lose its items if removed).
- Performance
- Heavy on spawns — pairs well with Performance Fix; there's a creature config to raise FPS.
◉What it adds
Creatures & populated environments
- Roughly 258+ creatures — common, rare, and insidious. Not all are hostile; some are neutral or passive-aggressive. You may encounter things you've never seen as your playstyle and biomes change.
- Wrecks, large ruins and caves are populated — no more empty salvage. Ruins become the most reliable place to find alien materials.
- Higher spawn frequency and variety overall, and more missions/events.
By design, there's no in-game wiki or guide for its creatures. You learn them by encountering them — bring more meds and ammo than you would in vanilla, and treat the abyss and cave-diving as genuinely unknown territory.
Biomes
Each biome gets its own set of creatures and difficulty curve, pushing you to learn the underlying mechanics of each threat, your submarine, and sometimes stealth, to survive.
Radio overhaul
Barotraumatic completely overhauls the radio system — distortions, interference and even death can come through your headset. There are 5 craftable radios, each with unique features such as noise-cancelling and a chemical battery (so some don't need conventional batteries).
⚠Installation & conflicts
- Do NOT also run the legacy packs it absorbed — Xansmonsters 1&2, Extended Monsters, Monster Test Pack, Europa Fishies, MN Creatures, Creatures of the Depth, etc. Running them alongside causes crashes and errors. The separate "Barotraumatic Creature Pack" is no longer needed (it's built in).
- Other mods that edit the spawn list, event manager, or vanilla afflictions must load below Barotraumatic.
- If you hit "missing files / can't join / red in the loader" after an update, the install is likely corrupted — right-click the mod in the in-game manager → View Details → Reinstall (or delete folder
2518816103 from your Barotrauma mod staging folder to force a clean reinstall).
⚑How to play around it
- Over-supply on ammo and medical — wrecks and caves now fight back.
- Mind your sonar discipline (active sonar attracts swarms); coordinate with your Navigator/Security.
- Use the creature config to dial spawn density up or down for your crew's skill and your PC's performance.
- It pairs naturally with DynamicEuropa (load order between them doesn't matter, per DE's dev) and with Neurotrauma for the injuries the new creatures cause.
